Cumin Jalapeño Flour Tortillas

Cumin Jalapeño Flour Tortillas

Making tortillas at home may seem like over-kill but it is totally worth it. You get to choose your ingredients and flavor the tortillas the way you want, just like we did, with cumin seeds and jalapeños. You can fill the tortillas with whatever filling you’d like – we recommend cheese, and lots of it!
Course Bread
Servings 6 tortillas

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tbsp jalapeños minced
  • ½ cup warm water

Instructions

  • Sift the flour, salt, and baking powder into a mixing bowl.
  • To the flour mixture, add the olive oil, cumin seeds, and jalapeños and mix to combine.
  • Add the warm water to the bowl, working it into the flour until the dough is formed into a soft ball. Add additional warm water, as needed.
  • Cover the dough and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.
  • Divide the dough into 6-8 balls and keep the balls covered.
  • Lightly flour your rolling surface and roll out each ball into a circle, about a ¼” thick.
  • Heat a skillet on high heat. When the skillet is hot, place the tortilla on it and cook each side for about 30 seconds. The tortillas will form a couple brown spots on each side.
  • Butter each tortilla as they come off the skillet and keep them covered to keep them warm and soft.
